Families with energetic older children are going to be disappointed when they discover the article on national parks (Travel, 9 February) has misled them about the location of Pen-y-Pass Hostel in Snowdonia. It is not “at the foot of Snowdon” but at an elevation of 359m, about one third of the way up to the summit. The clue is in the name: it means “the top of the pass”.

• The government must live in a continual state of anticlimax after each of Chris Grayling’s appointments inevitably results in failure (Minister backs Grayling despite debacle over ferry contract, 11 February). Any honourable minister would have fallen on their sword – but he’d probably miss it.
